Jiuxi Eighteen Ravines | Hangzhou’s Most Poetic Mountain-Water Escape
“Misty Trees of Jiuxi” is one of the New Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake. Nestled in the southwestern corner of West Lake, Jiuxi stretches from Longjing Village in the south to the Qiantang River in the north. Its name comes from nine streams that converge and meander through eighteen ravines, weaving a tranquil tapestry of nature.Lush hills rise on all sides, clear streams gurgle over mossy stones, tea plantations blanket the slopes, and ancient trees cast dappled shade. Each season paints Jiuxi in a different mood:
- Spring: tender green tea shoots unfurl
- Summer: cool forest canopies offer refuge
- Autumn: crimson maples reflect in crystal-clear water
- Winter: soft mist wraps the valleys in quiet serenity

Wander along the 4.5-kilometer trail—a beloved local hiking route—where cobblestone paths crisscross bubbling brooks and birdsong blends with the murmur of water. The walk typically starts at Jiuxi Bus Stop and ends in Longjing Village (or vice versa), passing highlights like Lian’an Temple, Yangmeiling, and the iconic “Misty Trees of Jiuxi” stone monument. There are no crowds here—only slow footsteps, deep breaths, and the gentle rhythm of nature. As the Qing-dynasty scholar Yu Yue once wrote:

“The nine streams and eighteen ravines have no names; Yet every traveler finds them beautiful—why ask for their names at all?”
📍 Getting There: Take bus No. 4, 39, or 103 to “Jiuxi” stop—entrance is right across the street ⏰ Best Time to Visit: Early morning or weekdays (avoid public holidays) 👟 Tips: Wear non-slip shoes—some sections cross shallow streams. Pair your visit with Longjing Village or Yunqi Bamboo Path for a full day in nature.
Come to Jiuxi not for photos—but to let the sound of flowing water cleanse your mind.
